The IRS offers two incentives that can offset — or fully cover — the cost of ADA compliance.

$5,000

Tax Credit

IRS Section 44 — Dollar-for-dollar reduction of tax owed. Covers 50% of eligible expenditures between $250 and $10,250 per year. Claimed on Form 8826.

Businesses ≤$1M revenue or ≤30 employees

$15,000

Tax Deduction

IRS Section 190 — Deduct up to $15,000 per year in barrier-removal costs from taxable income. Covers physical and digital improvements.

All businesses, regardless of size

Both incentives can be used together in the same tax year. A small business spending $20,000 on accessibility could claim a $5,000 credit + $15,000 deduction = up to $20,000 offset.
